You're not a bad mom. You're a trauma-surviving mom whose nervous system may be reacting before you even have a chance to choose how you respond.
Download the free Unlocking Peace Guide and discover what's happening beneath your reactions—and what you can do in those moments when motherhood feels like more than you can handle.
No pressure. No spam. Just practical tools and gentle support.
Watch this first.

In this short video, I'll explain why trauma-surviving mamas can feel stuck in reactivity—and why understanding what's happening in your nervous system is an important first step toward change.
You Love Your Kids. So Why Does It Feel So Hard?
It's 3 p.m.
You've been holding it together all day.
Your child asks for one more thing, refuses to listen, melts down over something tiny—and suddenly you're right there too.
Your voice gets louder.
Your body gets tense.
You react in a way you wish you hadn't.
And then comes the guilt.
Why did I react like that?
What's wrong with me?
I'm becoming the kind of mom I never wanted to be.
You promise yourself you'll do better next time.
But then it happens again.
You're not failing because you don't love your child enough.

What If Your Reactions Aren't a Character Flaw?
You've probably been told to be more patient.
To take a breath.
To calm down.
To just respond instead of react.
But if you're parenting while carrying the impact of childhood trauma, trying harder isn't necessarily the answer.
Your nervous system may be responding to a perceived threat before your thinking brain has time to catch up.
When you understand what's happening in your body, you can begin to recognize your triggers instead of being blindsided by them.
That's where change begins.

Imagine Having a Moment to Pause
Picture your child doing the thing that normally sends you over the edge.
You notice your body reacting.
Instead of immediately snapping, you recognize:
I'm triggered.
You know what that feels like.
You know what you need.
And you have a tool to help you come back to yourself.
Maybe the moment isn't perfect.
But it's different.
You recover faster.
You carry less shame.
And instead of spending the rest of the day beating yourself up, you're able to reconnect with your child—and with yourself.
That's the kind of peace we're working toward.

What Mama's are Saying

This Is Where You Start

I'm Emily Cleghorn, a trauma recovery coach, author, and trauma survivor.
I've lived the cycle of reactivity, guilt, and wondering if I was becoming the mother I never wanted to be.
I've also done the work of learning what was happening underneath those reactions—and how to change the patterns.
That's why I created the Unlocking Peace Guide.
It's designed to help trauma-surviving mamas understand their triggers and take their first practical step toward responding differently.

You Don't Have to Keep Doing This Alone
Understanding your triggers won't magically make motherhood easy.
But it can change the way you understand yourself.
Less:
"What's wrong with me?"
More:
"I understand what's happening—and I know what to do next."
Less shame.
More self-trust.
Less reacting from survival.
More opportunities for connection.
